2010 Hummer H2 85% Ethanol
Well GM now shows its hand on what its plans maybe for alternative fuel 4x4 in the years ahead. Alternative fuel is anything that is non fossil based, Its not necessarily referring to greener fuel . GM for 2010 are offering its flexi fuel Hummer H2 into the market. This vehicle will boast a engine that will work successfully on 85% VEGETABLE BASED ETHANOL.. This is a true alternative fuel 4x4, the plan here by GM is to have 3 million
of these in action by 2012. This is not new technology as SAAB already has a E85
engine. Exploring ethanol engines I believe any replacement of fossil fuels is great, but the argument will be with us for many years on the use of fossil fuels in the end result of producing the ethanol? The jury is out and unlike the all electric avenue been taken by Canadian manufacturer Phoenix and hybrid by Ford etc., The longevity of ethanol production may come into question. Distribution and availability also needs to be addressed. Ethanol in Australia for example is readily available although shortages have occurred, control by the fuel companies also leave the question mark on the pricing of this fuel source that should be cheaper than (fossil imported fuels).
Ethanol for many years was toted as the cheaper fuel source but as it is being proven this is only a token gesture by the fuel companies. This web site alternative fuel 4x4 is not about the greener aspects but the continuation of supply of fuel from any source that will continue the running of the vehicles that until now in our history are a essential part of our automotive culture.
